The Metrowest OG Teacher

About Me

Hello families! My name is Mackenzie Hopkins. I am a dedicated special education teacher and Orton Gillingham reading tutor based in Medway, MA. I have been a Massachusetts Public Schools special education teacher for the past three school years. Prior to my teaching career, I completed my Orton Gillingham training and practicum through the Orton Academy (OGA) under the supervision of an OGA fellow. I have also been trained in other popular methods that I often use to supplement my reading instruction such as Handwriting Without Tears and Lindamood/Bell LiPS. My biggest passion in education is dyslexia awareness and educating families on their child's learning profile. I take pride in my relationships with students and the progress that they make through my tutoring sessions.

Parent Testimonials

"Our son worked with Mackenzie during the summer of 2022 for 6 weeks to help prevent learning loss during the break and build confidence in his reading abilities. Our son has a complex learning profile that includes disabilities in reading (dyslexia) and math (dyscalculia).  His medical profile includes attention deficit disorder and epilepsy. The combination of these neurological instances make it difficult for him to process and retain information as readily as his peers. While our son is very hard worker, he often needs help to “get started” with his work. Mackenzie took the time to understand this profile, spoke directly with his classroom teachers and then developed a tutoring plan that would work for him.  She was exceedingly patient with our son and adjusted her plans readily to meet his needs and stamina level during each session. I found her approach to be encouraging and supportive while also holding the learner accountable for their work. I highly recommend Mackenzie to other families!"

"I honestly don’t know where to start. Mackenzie has changed every facet of my son’s reading. He has had 3 tutors before her who left him feeling frustrated with himself and reading. As an avid reader myself, I was worried that my son would hate reading because of his dyslexia diagnosis and those who were supposed to be helping him. Mackenzie has driven away all my fears. My son is now asking me to keep reading his decodable reader aloud to me! I find him reading quietly to himself ! Best of all, he enjoys reading aloud to me and his siblings. He reads clearly and swiftly. It’s been such a change and I’m so grateful. I can’t recommend her enough!"
